A Night Out
Looking for a place to travel to for a good cause? Come on down to Lexington, VA, to Washington & Lee University to attend the W&L GLBT Equality Initiative’s Virginia Equality Gala 2016 on March 5th, 2016, from 7pm – 12am. According to their Facebook page, W&L GLBT Equality Initiative says they “work to promote equal rights, justice, and opportunity for all members of the Washington and Lee University community regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Located in Evans Hall (204 W Washington Street), this gala is open to the public. On their event page, they suggest you “come as you are.” However, wear cocktail attire is suggested. For $15 at the door, the bargain is hard to beat. Come on down for a fun time in a great little city!
Protect Yo HeART
If one walks around Manhattan, there is a good chance people do not pay attention to what is on the sidewalk (with the exception of any kind of animal fecal matter). However, if one pays attention and opens their eyes to the beauty of NYC, they will see graffiti on the sidewalk that states, “Protect Yo HeART.”
Located all over the city, the idea was created by UncuttART in 2007. He states on his Tumblr that “the purpose of the quote wasn’t clear at first, but it felt powerful . . . a powerful feeling that he wanted to share with the world. Protecting Yo Heart simply means to be careful what you put in your heart, from negative words, people, to negative feelings . . . so we’ve posted a ton of these #protectYoHeART stencils in certain spots in and out of the city as a reminder. A reminder to always protect our hearts. We don’t have to try to love, because love is like air, it’s all over . . . ProtectYoHeart and everything in it (just make sure not to put the wrong thing in there and try to protect that, because the result will be emotional pain . . . PYH always.”
It has gotten so popular to the point that country singer Miranda Lambert saw it on a sidewalk and laid down next to it to have her picture taken with it about five months ago and wrote, “I don’t normally lay on the sidewalk in NYC. Words move me . . . words make me move.” If one keeps their eyes open, they can see the beauty that is all over The City That Never Sleeps.
