Farmingdale 12U Baseball Team Fundraisers for Cooperstown
A local Long Island Youth Baseball Team, Farmingdale Greenwave, has been doing major fundraising for their upcoming tournament in Cooperstown, New York. To date the team has done approximately six fundraisers in the hopes of raising enough money to send the 12 player team to Cooperstown in August of this year.
According to one of the coaches, Dennis Winkler, “We need to raise $1200. per player, for the week long Tournament at Cooperstown All Star Village. These fundraisers were done to keep the parent costs down to a minimum.” So far some of the fundraisers that have been done were; Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Raffle, Superbowl boxes, Night at the Races, and retailers Five below and Models giving a percentage of sales to the team.
The most recent fundraiser was Night at the Races where the team raised approximately $9,000. Night at the Races had a huge turnout, it was held at a local Knights of Columbus and there were over 100 people in attendance. According to Coach Dennis Winkler, “What made this night special was having the opportunity to work together and have fun while doing it.” They raised $9,000. at the Night at the Races. The $9,000 raised that night included money from betting on races, Superbowl boxes, basket raffles, and 50/50 raffles. All the parents volunteered and worked the event. The night was a big success; earning approximately $6,000. from admission and the 50/50 raffle. Then they earned another $3,000. from the basket raffles and the race betting.
The Cooperstown Tournament costs $1,400. per player which includes room and board, uniforms, tournament fees, and trophies. The players stay in an army type barracks and will have a daily itinerary for each of the six days they will spend at the tournament.
Coming up this week on Friday, February 26th there will be another fundraiser called Paint Nite. Parents will be able to go and paint their own pictures for a $49 fee per person. The following are additional upcoming fundraisers that the team has planned; a garage sale, poker night, and a team car wash. Furthermore, the team has procured a sponsor. Camps R Us, a local Long Island business has agreed to sponsor the team and donate some funds.
According to Coach Mike Pietzak, “If everything goes well there is a possibility that the spring and summer fees could be partially offset by the fundraising.” At this point the player’s fees are covered from fundraising for the Cooperstown Tournament. All of the additional fundraising from this point would be to cover the cost of incidentals as well as fees for coaches to attend the tournament.
As fundraisers are coming to a close, the team has been hard at work having indoor practices and winter workouts to stay fresh for the upcoming tournament. To get further updates on the Farmingdale Greenwave fundraisers go to the following link:
