You Can’t Stop The Beat!

IMG_3190Good morning Baltimore! This past weekend the brand new Cultural Arts Playhouse in Syosset had their closing show of Hairspray! This production made a great impression being the first mainstage show at this new location. CAP moved from Plainview to Syosset creating a bigger and better space. The new theatre has more audience seating, a bigger dressing room and a larger stage for incredible sets. Choreographer Eliana K-Lichtman says “I’m glad the dancers have a bigger space to dance in and now more people can fit on stage.” Sunday February 21, the theatre for Hairspray was so packed they almost sold out! What a great closing show! The new space has created a buzz around Long Island. Verizon FIOS, Newsday, and My Long Island TV have taken this opportunity to do a special on CAP’s opening show.

The Cultural Arts Playhouse has been entertaining audiences and finding talent for 20 years! We can expect good things to come. To purchase tickets for any of the upcoming shows or more information visit http://www.culturalartsplayhouse.com

Howitt Middle School Presents Shrek the Musical

14879_fullShrek the Musical made an outstanding performance at Howitt Middle School on March 11th and 12th. Shrek the Musical is about an ugly ogre who falls in love with a princess and meets a donkey companion on the way. The level of talent in these 6th, 7th, and 8th graders were unbelievable.

One member of the cast was Olivia Espinosa, a 7th grader at Howitt. Olivia was a dancer and ensemble member of the production of Shrek the Musical. She talks about how much fun she had putting on an amazing show with all of her friends. “Performing is my favorite. I love going on stage and doing for people. I love the feeling I get when all my hard work is paid off and I get to perform for a crowd.”

Emily Missbach is a Howitt Middle School alumni who know is a junior at Farmingdale high school. She volunteers to help out with the shows at her middle school and she did stage crew for Shrek. Emily says “I wish they did this show when I still went here, but at least I was still about to be apart of the crew.”

He was lucky enough to come back to be assistant director for Shrek the Musical. “As much as I love being on stage, directing was a whole new exciting experience and I loved being back at my old middle school.” James will be going to college next year and would love to direct so Shrek was a great first inside look.

Franks character soon falls in love with Brendan Strong, played by Danielle Khoury, which is his downfall.
