Couple puts training to test at St. Patrick’s Day 5k Run


Every year, Smithhaven Elementary School in Smithhaven, NY ¬†hosts an annual 5k and family run on the weekend of St. Patrick’s day. For some the 5k run is a training session or an opportunity to run and compete with friends and family, some dress as leprechauns, others dress in their school colors. As for Tyler Burket and Grace Hickey, they took on the 5k and Family Fun Run in order put forth their hard work in their training and dieting and put it to the test. Training at the gym every day, running miles on the treadmill and the track all, cutting weight via the Ketogenic diet and other forms of low carb, all lead to the couple making strides in their athletic progress. Tyler having raced several 5k races before was able to cut his time down nine minutes with just three weeks of training. Grace, who ran the family fun run, a mile long race, finished fourth despite accidentally running around the finish line and going off course. Tyler and Grace surpassed their goals and now seek to take on greater challenges. Tyler, hopes to run a marathon by spring of next year and Grace wants try several 5k runs that have enticed her over the years.
